Tonight, Tomorrow and then the next day

Tonight we show her and accept condolences and sympathy
while letting lose tears and fury.
We’ll stand here and her body will lie there
while family and friends press in and around.

Tomorrow we put her body in the ground
while her pastor speaks from his heart.
We’ll stand here and her body will go into there
while we listen to each other’s cries.

Then the next day — what then the next day? —
while life has been going on and yours has stopped?
Where then my brother shall you stand
while her children laugh and cry all around?
